Graphite has always been a very personal and intimate medium for me. Although I have been creating art for as long as I remember, I find the period of time I spent creating graphite pieces to be very defining in my journey as I was preparing to go college, taking College Board exams, and deciding what I wanted to do with my life. Graphite is a medium I do not indulge in very often but when I do, I enjoy using as a way to examine people and their own defining moments. In this short series, which I hope to revisit and expand upon, I chose to study loneliness as it is portrayed in cinema. Each portrait delves into a specific character and defining moments in their development. I wanted to analyze how each character experiences loneliness and reacts to it. I enjoy sharing this type of art with others in order to create dialogues to discuss themes and symbolism in media, additionally so I can encourage others to think critically and deeply about the things they read, watch, and follow.
